Madrid, Spain and Waterloo, ON, Canada: Telefonica and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) have announced today the launch of the BlackBerry® Bold™ smartphone in Spain.
The new top of the line BlackBerry® smartphone is crafted from premium materials and comes in a luxurious black exterior with satin chrome finished frame and leatherette back plate. It includes integrated GPS that supports a wide range of location-based applications and services, including BlackBerry® Maps, as well as enterprise-grade Wi-Fi®. It is the first BlackBerry smartphone to support tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks around the world and is an ideal choice for business professionals and power users.
Industry Leading Mobile Email and Messaging
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone features advanced communications and multimedia capabilities, and like all BlackBerry smartphones, it gives users the industry’s leading mobile email and messaging solution together with access to a wide range of other mobile business and consumer lifestyle applications. Its new precision keyboard allows users to type messages quickly and easily or edit Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the smartphone using the pre-installed DataViz® Documents to Go® software suite. The BlackBerry Bold smartphone works with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, which enables advanced security and IT administration within IBM® Lotus® Domino®, Microsoft® Exchange and Novell® GroupWise® environments. It also works on BlackBerry® Internet Service, which gives users access to up to 10 supported work or personal email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts such as Yahoo!® Hotmail® MSN, Gmail®, etc), as well as BlackBerry® Unite! for SOHO and home users.
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone's support for tri-band HSDPA networks and Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g) as well as its next generation 624 MHz mobile processor and 128 MB flash memory, make quick work of downloading attachments, streaming videos and rendering web pages. Users can even talk on the phone while working on email, browsing the web or accessing other data applications.
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone comes with the sharpest display ever introduced on a BlackBerry smartphone. Its HVGA (480x320 resolution at 217 ppi) colour LCD is fused to the underside of the lens, making images leap out with stunning definition and clarity. Pictures are vibrant, while videos play smoothly and web pages, documents, presentations and messages snap with exceptional quality and contrast.
Rich Multimedia & Web Browsing
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone includes advanced multimedia functions, including a 2 megapixel camera that incorporates a flash, digital zoom and video recording capability. The media player can display photographs and slides quickly, play videos smoothly and manage an entire music collection. With 1 GB on-board storage memory as well as a microSD/SDHC memory card slot for up to 16GB* additional storage, there is plenty of capacity to take photos, videos and music on the go. With its newly enhanced, high performance browser and support for the Telefonica HSDPA network, the BlackBerry Bold gives users a fast mobile web browsing experience with desktop-style depiction, and its trackball mimics a mouse, making it easy to navigate sites in "Page View" or "Column View" and to zoom in on specific parts of a web page. Attachments can also now be downloaded from within the browser and there is support for watching streaming videos (RTSP – real-time streaming protocol).
First Class Phone
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone comes with numerous premium phone features such as dedicated 'send', 'end', and 'mute' keys, smart dialing, speed dialing, conference calling and call forwarding as well as a powerful speaker phone and support for polyphonic, mp3 and MIDI ring tones. It also features Speaker Independent Voice Recognition (SIVR) for Voice Activated Dialing (VAD), Bluetooth® 2.0, with support for hands-free headsets, stereo headsets, car kits (including car kits that adhere to the Bluetooth Remote SIM Access Profile) and other Bluetooth peripherals. The BlackBerry Bold smartphone's new acoustic design increases the size of the phone’s audio sweet spot; and its noise cancellation technology offsets background noise, improving listening quality and clarity.
