Telefónica Móviles And RIM To Sell BlackBerry In Spain For Wireless E-Mail, Phone And Data Applications

Madrid, Spain and Waterloo, Canada: Telefónica Móviles España (TME), a subsidiary of the Telefónica Móviles Group, and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced an agreement to sell the BlackBerry solution to enterprise customers in Spain. Commercial availability is expected during the first quarter of 2003. As a result of this agreement, Telefónica Móviles becomes the first operator to sell BlackBerry in Spain and completes the range of data services TME offers its corporate customers under the Oficin@ MoviStar umbrella.

Waterloo, ON: Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) reported today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has ordered a Director Initiated Reexamination of five of the United States Patents owned by NTP Inc. The Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has determined that certain relevant patents and publications (known as "prior art") not previously considered by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office raise a substantial new question of patentability as to the claims of the NTP Inc. patents. These patents are disputed in the ongoing litigation between NTP Inc. and RIM.
